Ginger Syrup
Infused with ginger and black pepper, this syrup makes a great homemade ginger beer: Just mix one part syrup to three parts soda water. The result is spicy and fragrant, perfect on its own or in cocktails.
From: Saveur MAKES 1 CUP OF SYRUP
1 (6") piece of ginger
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1½ tsp. whole black peppercorns
Peel and thinly slice ginger; transfer to a 2-qt. saucepan. Add sugar, water, and peppercorns; boil. Reduce heat to medium; simmer until sugar is dissolved. Chill overnight, then strain into an 8-oz. glass jar.

"Bucks" are a family of drinks that consist of ginger beer plus a spirit and citrus—a category that includes this fruity refresher as well as the classic Moscow Mule.
1 chopped strawberry
¾ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. simple syrup
2 oz. Wild Turkey bourbon
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 oz. ginger beer
Strawberry slice, for garnish
Muddle chopped strawberry, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add bourbon, 2 dashes bitters, and ice. Shake and strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Top with ginger beer; garnish with a strawberry slice.
