Oral Rehydration Salts
From Leggy Peggy
This is one of those recipes that everyone should know. It tastes terrible, but it works miracles. It is designed to keep people hydrated. It was created by Canadian researchers. UNICEF embraced it, and a commercial version is now distributed widely (mostly free of charge). Each year it is credited with saving the lives of at least a million children. The ingredient list includes some options to make this taste better, but only use one option at a time. Serves 5
1 litre water, boiled
8 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
lemon juice (optional)
lemonade (optional)
mashed banana (good for potassium) (optional)
1 Boil the water and let cool. (Or just use known tap or bottled water)
2 Stir in sugar and salt, and let them dissolve.
3 Add any desired flavourings.
