Blood & Sand Cocktail

This essential scotch cocktail, created in London in the 1920s, was named for the 1922 film starring Rudolph Valentino.. From: Saveur

1 oz. scotch
¾ oz. Cherry Heering liqueur
¾ oz. sweet vermouth
¾ oz. fresh orange juice
1 maraschino cherry, to garnish

Combine scotch, Cherry Heering, vermouth, and orange juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; cover and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and top with cherry.

Twelve Mile Limit Cocktail

This potent Prohibition-era cocktail takes its name from the U.S. law that banned the consumption of alcohol a dozen miles beyond its shores. From: Saveur

1 oz. silver rum
½ oz. rye whiskey
½ oz. brandy
½ oz. grenadine
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 lemon twist, to garnish

Combine rum, whiskey, brandy, grenadine, and juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; cover and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled highball glass and top with lemon twist.

Rose Cocktail

A popular cocktail in 1920s Paris, this delicate concoction gets its soft pink color from the addition of raspberry syrup, and its floral notes from the use of vermouth and kirsch, a dry cherry brandy. From: Saveur

2 oz. French vermouth
1 oz. kirsch (cherry brandy)
1 tsp. raspberry syrup, such as Monin
1 maraschino cherry, to garnish

Combine vermouth, kirsch, and syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; cover and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass and add cherry.

Rossini Cocktail

A luscious take on the bellini, the Rossini swaps in strawberries for the latter drink's white peaches, and prosecco for champagne. Serve as an aperitif, or with dessert. From: Saveur

1 oz. puréed strawberries
3 oz. chilled prosecco
1 fresh strawberry, sliced, to garnish

Pour strawberry purée into a chilled champagne glass, and top with prosecco. Garnish glass with fresh strawberry.
