RAF Elvington is situated a few miles south east of York, three interconnecting concrete runways were constructed in 1942 but the airfield fell into disuse after the war. Flying ceased at Elvington in 1992, since when the only operations on site have been leisure and training. Richard Hammond famously crashed here. Various track layouts are possible on this airfield, for e.g:

As usual I'd not been organised enough to get myself booked on this day, but decided to turn up on spec anyway and see if there was a place free. Fortunately for me not only were there a few places free, but the airfield was covered in snow and ice, and I even managed to blag a ride in a Westie. Wonderful fun :o)
