French Frolic, Aug 2002

A day trip from Calais to Crecy for lunch, and back via a champagne and caviar reception in the Town Hall at Le Touquet  :o)

We met up with the British contingent just off the Calais motorway. Kev and Paul rolled up (to pass on our route book) in a brand new Type 25 that Kev was running in. We followed along behind him for a while whilst we familiarised ourselves with the route directions. Then a whole bunch of Elises appeared from a side road in one of the villages and we suddenly metamorphosed into a big convoy! Outside the village, Kev indicated for us to pass and we were leading the convoy! Oh no! And the directions were all in miles!

We cruised down some lovely French roads without getting too lost and eventually arrived in Crecy for a very welcome lunch of baguettes.

After Lunch we set off again, this time off to Le Touquet. More wonderful roads and beautiful scenery :o)

After a few laps of Le Touquet, we eventually found the parking space that had been reserved for us in the market square. Then it was off to the beach and on to find some refreshments. At 18.30 we were treated to a champagne reception in the town hall with a welcome from the Mayor, after which we were off again to return to Calais. We followed the motorway for a lot of the distance, and then cut across some wonderful twisty roads along the coast.

Then it was onto the channel tunnel train and back to Pauls local for last orders.

Sunday was a trip to Brooklands, via a BBQ at The Wheatsheaf in Marsh Green, and the chance for a group picture on the famous Brooklands Banking.

Many, many thanks to Paul and Guy for organising it all!
