Lydd International Raceway, Jan 2002
Another SELOC event, this time endurance karting - involving 11 teams of 4, racing over three hours. We finished 8th which was quite reasonable considering only one of our team had actually done outdoor karting before!
My first session was a disaster. Seeing how much muck was being splattered up from the track, I pulled my helmet visor right down where it locked shut. It then proved impossible to clear or push up when it got covered in grime, and by the time my session was ending it had also steamed up on the inside making it almost impossible to see where I was going. Oh well, you live and learn! At least I got a feel for it and soon learned that the easiest way to get around a corner was to hit the throttle and slide around :o)
The second session was great fun and I was really quite sad to come off. The third session was a frustrating as I got bumped offline (I was under the mistaken impression that this was a no contact sport!), then hit a wet patch on a corner and was reduced to no grip and headed straight into the grass... or should I say bog :o( I eventually maaged to drag it out again (with a little help), and I was off again with no further incident (just a few more bumps which I was then prepared for!)
Great fun, must do this more often :o)
